From the Garden to Lunch

My tomatoes are here! I have had some serious issues with these little babies. I am so thrilled to see the fruit of my labor has finally payed off. This is the first year that I have decided to give gardening a go, my yard is surrounded by tall hedges that the sun exposure is limited so I started with some landscaping plants: hostas, ground covers, tall grasses and a few sunflowers.  I really want a vegetable garden, but without the sun it really is not possible. I did however attempt tomatoes that a friend gave to me as starters. I figured I had nothing to lose but $10 for the soil and pots. That $10 has now turned into $30 and finally at the end of August I have cherry tomatoes. And by tomatoes I mean very few. At first I put 4 plants in one pot, obviously I did not research on how to exactly grow tomatoes.  This led to 4 new pots and 4 new tomato cages and more soil and more fertilizer and more and more. Because my yard has such limited sun exposure I decided to put the pots in the driveway where the sun exposure is about 8 hours. At first they loved it, and then they did not. Apparently the heat penetrating from the garage door was no bueƱo. The leaves started shriveling. What did I do? I kept watering and watering only to find out that I almost killed them with water...who knew? So then on about August 17th I moved them to the middle of the drive way. Who needs parking, I need lunch! Fast forward to today and I finally have my tomatoes. To give you a better time frame I started these guys in June. I hope you are laughing because I am. Lesson to self: GOOGLE. I am a wing it kind of girl who has great instincts, I figured the world would just guide me-apparently not in this case. Here are some pictures from the garden today and my favorite "wing it" lunch showcasing my cherry tomatoes.

A Night at Clyde Common

I took my new camera to the front lines of Clyde Common to see how it would hold up in low light. These pictures have only been slightly edited to see what my Olympus Stylus XZ-10 is capable of. I think I may have made chef Chris Diminno only slightly nervous and/or annoyed. Luckily for me I am super cute and loved by all at this fantastic restaurant. The dishes were all beautiful subjects, my favorite a toss up between the salmon tartare with avocado and the water buffalo liver mousse chocolate dust. As the sun set you can really see the difference of light from the top two to the bottom three...
like mom always said "practice makes perfect"
